The Book ofHOSEA
There are 14 chapters in the book of Hosea. Hosea is a book of prophecy. The time period for the book of Hosea is before the fall of Samaria in 721 B.C.
"The LORD says,"I will bring my people back to me.I will love them with all my heart;no longer am I angry with them.I will be to the people of Israel like rain in a dry land. They will blossom like flowers;they will be firmly rooted like trees of Lebanon. They will be alive with new growth, and beautiful like olive trees. They will be fragrantlike cedars of Lebanon.Once again they will live under my protection. They will grow crops of grain and be fruitful like a vineyard. They will be famous as the wine of Lebanon. The people of Israel will have nothing more to do with idols;I will answer their prayers and take care of them.Like an evergreen tree I will shelter them;I am the source of all their blessings."
"But the LORD says, "Israel and Judah, what am I going to do with you? Your love for me disappears as quickly as morning mist; it is like dew, that vanishes early in the day. That is why I have sent my prophets to you with my message of judgement and destruction. What I want from you is plain and clear: I want your constant love, not your animal sacrifices. I would rather have my people know me than burn offerings to me."
"The arrogance of the people of Israel cries out against them. Their sins make them stumble and fall, and the people of Judah fall with them. They take their sheep and cattle to offer as sacrifices to the LORD, but it does them no good. They cannot find him, for he has left them. They have been unfaithful to the LORD; their children do not belong to him. So now they and their lands will soon be destroyed."
The main theme of the book of Hosea is God's love in judgement and how God's love for his people will always prevail.
I chose to make a glogster on the book of Hosea for a few reasons. My first reason is because I wanted to read something in the Bible that I've never read before. I've read only the most popular books in the Bible so I thought that I should try reading one that I've never heard of before. I also chose this book because once I read the introduction, it seemed interesting. The book seemed to have a good message behind it and after reading I found that I was right. I particularly found the last verse of Hosea to be a very true. I also chose Hosea because it is a prophet book. I haven't read many of the prophet books so I thought that it would be interesting to read. I'm glad that I chose this book since I think I've learned some important lessons from it.
"May those who are wise understand what is written here, and may they take it to heart. The LORD's ways are right, and righteous people live by following them, but sinners stumble and fall because they ignore them."
God told Hosea to get married. God told him that his wife and children would be unfaithful. God's people in the same way left him and became unfaithful. Hosea married Gomer. God told them to name their first son 'Jezreel' since soon God would punish the king of Israel for the murders that his ancestor Jehu committed at Jezreel. God was going to stop the Jehu's dynasty and destroy Israel's military power. They had a second child who was a female. God told them to name her "Unloved" because God would no long show love to the people of Israel or forgive them. God said he would show the people of Judah love and will save them but not by war. They had a third child who was a male. God told them to name him "Not-My-People" because the people of Israel are not God's people and he is not their God.
"This is the message which the LORD gave Hosea son of Beeri during the time that Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah, and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel."
