The Body Art

Marina Abramović, was born in 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. She is without question one of the seminal artists of our time. Since the beginning of her career in Yugoslavia during the early 1970s where she attended the academy of fine arts in Belgrade, Abramović has pioneered the use of performance as a visual art form and medium. Exploring the physical and mental limits of her being, she has withstood pain, exhaustion, and danger in the quest for emotional and spiritual transformation. Abramović’s concern is creating works that ritualize the simple actions of everyday life like lying, sitting, dreaming, and thinking; the manifestation of a unique mental state. In one of his first performances he just stood in the middle of a flaming star and who the fire consumed the oxygen she fainted; but she was saving by a medical which was in the audience.

The body art is an art movement which started in the USA and in Europe in 1960.

The Body-Art

The body art is also a sub-category of performance art, in where artist use or abuse their own body to make their particular statements. More extreme body art can involve or pushing the body to its physical limits. One of the most popular body artists in performance art is Marina Abramović.

In the performance “the artist is present”, who was facing in the M.O.M.A of New York, she stay very still sitting in a chair every day for three months, to meet with her eyes whoever was sitting in front of her.The most important moment of her carrier was in 1997 when she won the Leone D’oro at the Biennale in Venice with the performance Balkan Baroque. During this performance she was sat on the pile of animal bones and she washed the skeletons, as an act of purification for the bloody war in the Balkans.

Is fascinating as Marina, can communicate in the same way, without the make-up and the word; in fact the look is more communicative. This is the expression of the soul. Instead, the ladies want to stand out with the make-up for appear youngers, secures and communicate what they are or what they wants to be, but isn’t necessary.

This is an art made on, with, or consisting of the human body. The most common types of body art are tattoos and body piercing. Other type includes scarification, branding, sub dermal implants, scalpelling, full body tattoo and body painting.
