Muhammad was born in 570 CE to a powerful Mecca tribe. When Muhammad got to be older he started to meditate and think about his life. During one of his many meditation sessions, Muhammad had said that the angle Gabriel told him he was a prophet to a god named Allah. After the encounter Muhammad started to preach about Allah. He would teach many things to people such as the Shari'a which is a Islamic law code that says a society should live based on adherence to the Koran and Sunna. The Sunna was Muhammad's example for proper living that the muslims should follow.
