The Battle of Stalingrad

The Battle of Stalingrad is famous for the participation of snipers. The most famous of them all was Soviet sniper Vasily Zaytsev.

The Battle of Stalingrad is considered by many historians the turning point in WWII in Europe. Lasting from August 23,1942 to February 2, 1943, it is also among the bloodiest of battles in the history of warfare. Despite the Soviet victory in Stalingrad, the Russian army had suffered far more losses than the Germans. (An approximated 1,150,000 Soviet to 850,000 German casualties.)

Among the belligerents were Nazi field marshal Friedrich Paulus and Soviet general Georgy Zhukov.

Thanks to the Battle of Stalingrad, the many war and military tactics that came from the battle are being used today, including the new idea for using snipers to silently assassinate those on the opposing side.
