The battle of Iwo Jima is one of the most well-known battles in the history of World War 2. Iwo Jima is an island 575 miles off the coast of Japan. it is an extremely small space the size of manhattan. The war was from February 18 to March 26 and was between the Japanese and United States. The battle was almost a month long. Americans went through tough times but continued to fight. The battle of Iwo Jima would go down as one of the greatest battles in American History.

The battle of Iwo Jima was sparked by the attacks from Japan. The Japanese were expecting attacks from the U.S. The Japanese wanted to hurt the U.S. and prevent an attack on the main island. The first day started off with bombings on the morning on February 18 by the Americans and the whole island was almost on fire. This started the beginning of d-day. After the Heavy bombings, the American let troops onto the island. Being a very small island, Iwo Jima was very crowded housing almost 100,000 troops. The size would provide a very interesting war

Many of the Japanese were located on the volcano of Mt. Suribachi and could spot a vast area of the island. The Japanese were very hard to spot once they were on the island but the Americans were spotted perfectly. The Americans were without tanks on the first day of invasion on the island. The Japanese took control over the Americans. The Americans would gain tanks the next day. On the third day the americans accidentally launched bombs into their own territory. The next few days would be settle and the Americans would recover.

I chose to Research the battle of Iwo Jima because it was a big success in American History. I also chose it because i wanted to gain more knowledge on the battles of World War 2. The battle of Iwo Jima interested me and I thought it would be an interesting research topic. This was one of the most interesting topics i have ever researched..

The Americans would come back strong. They would keep inflicting heavy casualties on the Japanese. Day by day they were taking more Japanese territories. Americans would move farther north and north and destroy the Japanese badly. It took the Americans about a month to take over the island and it finally happened on March 26 when the island was declare conquered. The Americans suffered 6,800 casualties and suffered a huge loss. Meanwhile, the Japanese suffered an enormous 18,000 casualties. The win at Iwo Jima was a huge one for the Americans and was a big step towards their goal.
