The Awakening is such a majestically written book from the state of Lousiana, the title itself defines just what the book is about. Edna Pontellier is a elite, artistic, young, once domestic mother and wife who finds herself at peace when realizing she is not who she wants to be. Edna meets many people who derive her to become the person she is trying to pursue, which is a free, independent, artist with no worries. Adele Ratignoille, Mademoiselle Reisz, and Robert Lebrun, all contribute to her actions through out the story in aiding her to find herself. Edna falls in love with the luring Robert, who then departs while still in marriage with her husband, Leonce Pontellier. She later resorts in the seductive Alcee Arobin with her sexual needs, who is an old friend. All why still married, but very distant from her husband, Leonce. She is in love, loving, and departing from all of her loves. All of Edna's 'love' affairs end when she undergoes the place that led her to realize what she wanted was not what she had, the sea. She absorbs the guilt, but yet not enough to overbear her different feelings that then takes her away.
