Why Was the Park Designated?The park was origonally founded by Benton MacKaye, a forester. He designated the park shortly after the death of his wife in 1921.

The Appalachian National Senic Trail Park first stated in 1921 shortly after the death of Benton MacKaye's wife. In 1922 Benton proposed his plans for the park to William A. Welch and his ideas where published. On October 7, 1923 the first trail was opened and later an anouncement was made stating that there would be a two day conference to be held in March 1925 about the park. This conference is also known today as the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Through out 1929-1937 more and more trails were made until it became a national park. Today there are hundreds of staff taking care of the park and the trails keeping the forest under control.

The Appalachian National Senic Trail Park spends up to $26.7 billion dollars each year keeping over 800,000 jobs just to take care of the park. Mean while people on average only donate about $1,000 a month. (With some major exceptions)

History of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail Park

-One problem the Appalachian National Senic Trail Park has is getting rid of there invasive species which are over taking the native plant and animal life.- The trail is a 2,200 mile hiking trail through the Appalachian Mountain Range in the Eastern United States.-The trail is the longest foot path ever.- The trail travels through 14 different states- It’s estimated that about 99% of the entire trail has been either relocated or rebuilt since its completion.
