After the considerable amount of damage from the Labor Day Hurricane in 1935, the bridge was refurbished for automobile use only which is now known as the 7-Mile Bridge.
The 7-Mile Bridge is a Box Girder bridge which is a bridge where the main beams compromise the girders in the shape of a hollow box.
