Treatments/Cures

Thalassemia can't be prevented because it is inherited.

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder, which means it can be passed down genetically through genes from your family. Because of thalassemia, your boday makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. This disorder causes lots of red blood to be destroyed, which leads to anemia.

Effects

This blood disorder is caused because your boday does not make enough of a protein called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein in the red blood cell that carries oxygen.

The treatment for thalassemia is through blood transfusions. These blood transfusions result in giving you iron overload so you need to get it removed.
