The wool is around 32 micrometers and is mostly used for hosiery yarns and knitting wools.

The wool is of medium grade with no black fibers.

Mature texels sheared fleece weighs 7.7 lbs to 12.1 lbs.

The Texel is a heavily muscled sheep which makes its meat leaner.

A mutation in the 3' UTR of the myostatin gene in Texel sheep creates target sites for the microRNAs miR-1 and miR-206.

The texel breed is very common in the UK and also in New Zealand.It is not a very common breed in the United states.
