Oaks, beeches, and maples are a few of the most abundant types of deciduous trees in these forests.
Temperate Forest
Temperate Forests experience relatively stable seasonal precipitation but more varied seasonal temperatures.
Organisms experience a range of temperature conditions throughout the seasons requiring a variety of adaptations - migration, hibernation, storing food for later, eating very little food, or using camaflouge.
Broad-leafed deciduous trees characterize the temperate forests. Decomposition from the annual dropping of leaves enriches the soil. Precipitation is distributed evenly throughout the year. Some of the animals found here are squirrels, rabbits, skunks, birds, deer, mountain lion, bobcat, timber wolf, fox, and black bear.
Temperate Forests cover most of Europe, eastern Asia, and eastern United States.
Some animals like birds, migrate to warmer areas. Some animals, like black bears and some snakes, hibernate.
