Temperate Deciduous Forest
Spring
What are they:They are diversity of trees that lose their leaves each year. They are found in areas where there are 4 seasons. The three major areas where they grow are the eastern North America, western Asia, and Europe. Smaller areas are Australia and Canada. Examples of the trees include oak, maple and elm. One of the world's greatest protected examples are found in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
3)There are many types of animals in the deciduous forest ranging from mammals like deer to bugs like mosquitoes. Many of the animals are either nut and acorn feeders, or omnivores. Many of the animals have adapted to forest life. Some of them hibernate during the winter months.
Characteristics:1)The forests are found in areas where warm, moist summers alternate with mild winters.
2)The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is 50° F. The average rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year.
4)During the fall, trees change color and then lose their leaves. This is to prepare for the winter season. Because it gets so cold, the trees have adapted to the winter by going into a period of sleep. They also have thick bark to protect them from the cold weather. Trees flower and grow during the spring and summer growing season.
