TANE MAHUTA-FOREST GOD
Tane separated his parents, Papatuanuku earth mother and Ranuginui sky father. Trees in the forest are believed to hold apart the earth and sky, so light can come in.
Tane Mahuta means Tane-the-riser. (he who makes thing rise such as trees rising out of the ground.)Therfore in this sense, he is the god of the forest. This is how he got his name.
Tane Mahuta is important because he separated Heaven and Earth. He also made the forest and without trees we would have no oxygen, which means we would not be alive.
Tane's parents are Papatuanuku earth mother and Ranuginui sky father. Tane Mahuta has 5 siblings.
Tane Mahuta has a very important role in the world. He is the God of all forests and of birds.
