Taiga

~Climate- subartic, ~Precipitation- 20 in. per yr 40 in. in Eastern regions, & 10 in. in Alaska. ~Low evaporation rates. ~Rain & snow~Summers- warm, dry, & humid, w/ 4-6 frost free months. ~Extremely dry temps.- large fires start by lightning strike & sometimes burn underground & reappear during the next summer. ~Temps. range from 57-14° F.

Northern Coniferous Forest (Taiga)

~Global warming hurts biome, 5-50 times worse, organisms not adjusting to the changes. ~Extreme change in temperature & acid rain may cause climate zones to shift in the next 50 years. ~Tiaga will then be reduced by 50-90%. ~To fight issues “scrubbers” used to shorten amount of pollution released into the atmosphere.

~Harsh winters in theTaiga cause permafrost, permanently frozen soil, or thick rock layers. ~This stops water from soaking through so ground is soft and damp. ~Soil is acidic because pine needles make it infertile.
