The taco sandwich got its name because it is a version of the taco made into a sandwich. "Taco" means "plug", describing a typical Mexican dish of a tortilla folded around food.

Ingredients:1 pound ground beef1 loaf (1 pound) unsliced Italian bread4 ounces cream cheese, softened1/2 cup salsa2 tablespoons taco seasoning1 cup shredded lettuce1 large tomato, sliced6 slices American cheese
History of the Taco Sandwich
1) Brown the beef2) Drain beef. Stir in taco seasoning3) Blend cream cheese and salsa; Set aside4) Hollow out bread5) Layer ingredients inside bread.
The taco sandwich was inspired by tacos, which originated in Mexico. The people living in the lake region of the Valley of Mexico ate tacos filled with small fish long before the Europeans discovered the country.
