Sulfur

Today, most sulfur is found in volcanoes and things like hot springs. Most sulfur is also used to make sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid is used to make things such as fertilizers, lead-acid batteries, and many industrial products.

Atomic number: 16

Sulfur was discovered somewhere around 1777. Who and where it was discovered is unknown. However, Antione Lavioisier was credited with convincing the scientific community that sulfur was an element, although he was not the one to discover the material.

Sulfur is the tenth most abundant element in the universe. It is a pale yellow nonmetal and odorless material. It has 16 protons, 16 electrons (with 6 in it's outer shell), and 16 neutrons. It is a solid but it happens to be very brittle. Sulfur is a solid at room temperature with a melting point of 444.60 degrees Celcius. It's density is 2.067 grams. On the periodic table, it is in Group 16 and Period 6.

Electron configuration: 1s22s22p63s23p4.

Atomic mass: 32.066
