Substance Abuse: Alcohol

Important or Not

SubstanceAbuse: Alcohol

I am at a high school party, everyone is drinking. I am a very good football player, people know I love to play football and would do anything to become better. At this party people are preasuring me to drink with them. I know if do, something bad will happen, if I don't, I know that I can go on with nothing to worry about. What I mean by something bad will happen is that it goes on your reputation, I could get really drunk and end up driving and hurt someone. Coaches will know about my drinking and could bench me for games.

This is very important to me because I will be playing high school and I can in a lot of trouble and won’t be able to play football, it will also mess up my reputation. If I do, my parents will not trust me, I can’t play football, it will be in my reputation forever if something were to happen. If I don’t, I can continue having my parents trust and continue with football. What i’m going to do to make sure I don’t drink: I ALWAYS have to remember that someone is looking up to me and I can’t do anything stupid to mess up my reputation. I could/would lose so much on my life.

Decision: I have chose not to drink because there is too much at risk and I have a great reputation so far and I don't need to make it bad. I know not to get addicted to it because it will make me do things I don't need or want to do.

What is alcohol?Ethyl alcohol, or ethanol, is an intoxicating ingredient found in beer, wine, and liquor. Alcohol is produced by the fermentation of yeast, sugars, and starches. It is a central nervous system depressant that is rapidly absorbed from the stomach and small intestine into the bloodstream.

What will happen if I do drink: I will drink too much and then get addicted and end up drinking the rest of my life. Alcohol affects every organ in the drinker's body.

What will happen if I don't drink: I will have nothing to worry about and I can continue playing football knowing that I made the best choice possible at that party.

My grandpa drunk a lot when he was about 30 to probably 60 and he died in his 80's but at the same time he smoked which even made it worse. Together they make the worse combinaton. He didn't smoke cigarettes, he smoked out of a pipe too which is way worse. The alcohol would make his lungs even weaker than they were so he couldn't breathe too well.
