Structure of the Earth

THE EARTH'S STRUCTURE

The Earth is like an onion!

IT HAS LAYERS!!!!

Crust- the outermost layer of the earth, up to 44 miles in depth.Mantle- extends to a depth of 2,890 km, making it the thickest layer of Earth. Core- divided into two parts, a solid inner core and a liquid outer core. The liquid outer core is believed to be composed of iron mixed with nickel. The solid inner core is too hot to hold a permanent magnetic field but probably acts to stabilize the magnetic field generated by the liquid outer core.
