Why Famous
St. Patricks Cathedral is the largest Roman, Gothic, Catholic church in the U.S. James Renwick Jr. had the idea to build it in 1808. Was made an archiocese by Pope Puis IX on July 19, 1850. In 1853, Archbishop pronounced to make a new one to replace the old one.
The Cathedral keeps detailed records of everyone who says 'I do'. Eight archbishups of New York are buried in a crypt underneath the high alter. There's a sense of spiritual meaning behind the pretty windows.
