The Stone Age

The Stone Age began in Ireland 9,000 years ago when the first people arrived at Mount Sandel. This period in history is called prehistory. People couldn't read or write yet yet. Why do you think it was called the Stone Age?

Early Stone Age

The first people arrived in Ireland in the year 7000 BC. They got their food by hunting wild animals and gathering food.

In History books you often see the letters BC and AD. They tell us if the date came before or after Christ' birth. BC stands for Before Christ. AD means 'In the year of the Lord' in Latin.
