Stainless Steel

Structure and Function

Harry Brearley invented stainless steel in August 13, 1913. He created it using 12.8% chromuim, 2% tungsten, and 0.24% carbon. His father was a metal melter so Harry knew a lot of stuff about metal. Below are the chemicals Harry used to create stainless steel. On the right is a picture of Harry getting an award and another picture of stainless steel.

Stainless steel was invented because during that time period, World War 1 was about to start and the army's gun barrels kept eroding and they needed steel that woulden't erode and Harry invented it.
