Hitler created a military wing to the party of Nazi's in 1921 called SA soldiers. In 1923 the Nazi's had gained strength with 15,000 members and over 5,000 Storm Troopers. The jobs of SA soldiers was to secure Nazi meetings. To protect party leaders, but they were also used to physically beat opponents. Also to impress and frighten the public. Most SA soldiers or Storm Troopers were former Free Corps members. The Sturmabteliung functioned as the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi party. It concluded a good role in Adolf Hitler's rise of power in the 1920's and the 1930's.

SS is from the German initials for Schutzstaffel. Evaluating that it means "defense crops". Here and there SS soilders got called black shirts because of the uniforms worn by them. Schutzstaffel is translated to protection squardon and defense corps. SA is an abbreviation for Sturmabteilung or "Storm Troopers". The SA men were often called "Brownshirts"because of their uniforms. The Sturmabteliung worked as the main paramilitary wing of the Nazi party.

The SS became the organization that was directly responsible for carrying out the Holocaust. All members of SS had to prove they were pure German. With no type of Jewish ancestors. They wore black to distinguish themselves from others, also to look unified as a group. SS was a special arm of the German Nazi party under Adolf Hitler. SS looked down on SA. SS was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party.
