[2015] NASSERY HASHMATULLAH (624-ELA): Sport Reflection Assignment for Physical Education: American

I have been playing and watching football since I was four years old. I love playing as a wide reciever (WR). I am great at catching the ball. My favorite team is the New York Giants. Every week, I watch their game hoping they will win. My passion for football, goes beyond 'the wall' as I play every single day with my friends at school, in recess. For me, football is always a fun competetive game between old rivals. I play and watch football to this day. My support for the Giants does not change, as I buy jerseys, hats, scarfs, etc. with Giant logos. My love for this sport has not bben changed from day one.

Personal Connection to the Sport

Description of the sport

Sport Idol

My sports idol is Odell Beckham Jr., who plays Wide Reciever for the New York Giants. The reason i admire him is because he has incredible speed and quickness that noone can catch up with, but he can catch any ball that comes to him, including one hand catches. His rookie season, he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year, and set a rookie record for most consecutive games with 100 recieving yards, which was 10 games.

American-Football is a simple sport with complicated rules. The goal is to get the football across the field and get it inside the opposing teams goaline. You have to get the football 10 yards across the field in four downs to get a first down. Downs are basically trys. You have four trys to get the first down. On fourth down, you have a choice of going for the first down, kicking it accross the goal post for 3 points, or punting it to the other side of the field. If resulted in failure to get the first down on fourth down, the opposing team will have the ball on that exact spot putting your team in pressure. If you get the ball to the other side of the field, it is called a touchdown, giving you 6 points. You will have the choice to kick it up close for one point, or you could go for two points having to convert on a play at the 2 yard line. Any foul play such as holding somebody's mask (face mask), or pushing somebody while the ball is in the air, (pass interferance), holding somebody's shirt, (holding), foul actions, (unsportsment like conduct), moving while the play is not in ction, (offside), etc. will result in a flag giving your team a lost of yards or other disadvantage. You have three time-outs, that will stop the clock. The quarterback is the person who has to give it to the running back, or passing it to a widereciever, who has to control the ball in their hands. A result of catching the ball on defese or knocking it out of somebodys hand and recovering the ball will give you possession. The ball is not offically over until the play clock is on zero and the play is over. The play clock will only continue of someone is tackled with the control of the ball and in progress of the play. A incompletion will stop the clock. If you are tackled into your own endzone the other team gets two points and recieves the ball (called a saftey). The team with more points at the end of the game wins.
