From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda finds herself friendless and an outcast. After being raped she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. As the school year progresses she becomes more isolated and eventually stops talking altogether. the only place she feels comfortable at school is in her art class. And it is through her art teacher and hard work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party. By the end if the book Melinda realizes that nothing was her fault and to speak out about what happened to her that night.
