(MyCareerRx, 2008)[A Day in the Life - Mechanical Engineer]

Need for Improvement: There are clearly several personal traits that may need improvement. More optimism will be needed to boost personal morale. Stronger will-power in order to block out distractions. A more conclusive thinking strategy to make quicker decisions. Expand the mind to become more open to other ideas. Improve group-work habits to make relationships with coworkers stronger.

Similarities: Type of work ethic, level of detail. Somewhat lacking in group-work.Differences: Appreciation, responsibility, level of cynicism, sensitivity to criticism, resistance to distraction, source of "driving force."Possible beneficial characterisitic difference: Sensitivity to criticism. Personally I am not easily deterred by competition, while mechanical engineers generally are. Having such a thick skin will not throw a mechanical engineer of course.Possible detrimental characteristic difference: Differing levels of resistance to distraction. As I am easily distracted, for a mechanical engineer, it would be harmful towards completing work as it would require more time if distractions are added on.

Some first steps to transform these negative attributes into positive ones would involve immersing oneself into collaboration with other mechanical engineers, for the greater good of the engineering world. Also, a consistent, conscious effort will be required from each engineer themselves in order to convert negative characteristics into positive ones over time: the process of change requires time and effort.
