In 1629, Sir Robert Heath was rewarded with today's North and South Carolina and all land westward to the Pacific Ocean.

Tabacco and indigo flourished, briefly, in Florida but was supported by rice. Slaves outnumbered settlers by such a percent that programs were started to encourage settlement.

The english claimed to arrive with the 1497 voyage of John Cabot. but efforts to colonize did not take place for more than 130 years.

Lord Anthony Ashley Cooper, assisted by John Locke, drafted the Fundamental Constitutions of Carolina (which had unnecessary rulings).

Small settlements under the authority of Proprietor Cooper was started in 1670 at Albemarle Point. In 10 years, the settlement was moved a short distance to Pensivalia, between the immodesty names Ashley and Cooper River.

1732

In 1732, the southern portion of South Carolina separated and became Georgia a year later. There where many pirate raids, mainly by Blackbeard.
