The Solar System

Many scientists believe in the Nebular Theory, that the solar system was formed from a massive rotating cloud of dust and gas called the Solar Nebula. The Solar Nebula began collapsing under its own gravitational force causing heat and dust particles to vaporize resulting to a cloud in the center. The pressure at the center of the nebula became high enough to trigger nuclear reactions that could power the sun. The neubula shrunk in sized, forming a disk. Particles within the disk collided forming into plantesmials, some of those planetesmials combined together forming planets that we have in the solar system today. The rest of the planetesmials combined to form moons, metors, comets and asteroids. As the nebula collapsed, the large fragement seperated itself and formed the solar system.

What is the solar system? The collection of eight planets and their moons in orbit around the sun, together with samller bodies in form of asteroids, meteroids annd comets.

Asteroid, is a large rock body orbiting the sun and is made out of millions of dust particles.

Meteroid, any small object in Outer Space such as dust or a rock.

Comet, a small, frozen mass of dust and gas revolving around the sun.

The 8 Planets in Our Solar System:

Mercury- diameter just over 4,800 kmMercury has virtually no atmosphere with small quanities of hyrdogen, oxygen, sodium, and potassium.

Venus- diameter just over 12,100 kmVenus is known as Earth's twin sister due to similar size and proxmity to the sun, it is mosty made up of carbon dioxide.

Mars- diameter just over 227,840,000Mars is red due to the rust in the sand, it is made up of carbon dioxide.

Uranus- diameter just over 2,870,300,000Uranus is the coldest planet, with a mass 14 times larger then Earth, it is made up of frozen methane gases.

Jutiper- diameter just over 778,140,ooo kmJutiper rotates faster then any other planet, and is made up of hydrogen and helium.

Saturn-diameter just over 1,427,000,000kmSaturn has the lowest density with no solid surface and is completely made up of gas.

Earth- diameter just over 149,570,000 kmEarth is 4.5 billion years old and is made up of iron, nitrogen, and oxygen.

Neptune- diameter just over 4,499,900,000Neptune has 19 moons and goes around the sun every 165 years, it is made up of hydrogen, helium and methane.
