Famous Quote

The Diary of Clotee is one based off the authors Great-Great Grandmother. It tells the story of a young girl who is born into slavery in 1859. She works in the Big House on Belmont Plantation. Throughout the time of the story, she discusses the challenges of being a slave. This story may have taken place outside of 1585-1763 it still shows what slaves went through.

The man pictured below is Freddrick Douglass. He was an abolitionist during this time. He took time to help those around him escape slavery.

Depending on the plantation that a slave was enslaved at determined if they got to enjoy their own culture. In the book The Diary of Clotee, a Slave Girl, they got to have their Sunday meetings, which is like our church on Sunday's. They also celebrated their own holidays when they came around.
