Lever: Used to gain advantage, such as making work easier

Inclined plane: It is an even sloping surface. It can be at any angle between the horizontal and the vertical

Wheel and Axil: In this simple machine there is a large wheel that is secured to a smaller wheel that we refer to as the axle. When one of the wheels turns they both turn. The wheel and axle simple machine is usually used to increase speed.

Wedge: The wedge is similar to the inclined plane. They are used most often as separation or holding devices. The differences between the wedge and the inclined plane are that the inclined plane remains stationary but the wedge moves and that the effort force is applied parallel to the slope of an inclined plane but the effort force is applied to the vertical edge (height) of the wedge.

A simple machine is a non-motorized device that changes the direction or magnitude of a force.In general, a simple machine can be defined as one of the simplest mechanisms that provide mechanical advantage

Pulley: This simple machine is made of a wheel that turns freely within a frame referred to as the block. A fixed pulley is used to change the direction of a force.

Screw: This too is a modification of the inclined plane. The threads of the screw are like small versions of a circular inclined plane. Usually the screw is turned by another simple machine like a lever or a wheel and axle.
