Simon: The Most Symbolic 10 Year Old Ever

" 'You'll get back to where you came from.' Simon nodded as he spoke. He was kneeling on one knee, looking down from a higher rock which he held with both hands; his outer leg stretched down to Ralph's level." page 103 Here Simon is offering his support and help to Ralph, like he did when he volunteered to find Piggy and aided the littluns.

Simon is not one to speak up; he can be a little shy at times. But he is not looking for power or a leadership role. He prefers to be alone, away from the savagery of the boys. That is why he seeks quiet spots in the jungle to be at peace.

"Still he did not move but lay there, his face sideways on the earth, his eyes looking dully before him.... Simon got to his feet. The light was unearthly. The Lord of the Flies hung on his stick like a black ball. Simon spoke aloud to the clearing. 'What else is there to do?' " page 134 Thsis is when Simon starts to lose hope, and is the start to his death.

"The great wave of the tide moved farther along the island and the water lifted. Softly, surrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simon's dead body moved out toward the open sea." page 142
