Siddhartha is a young man in ancient India, believed by everyone to be a great Brahim teacher in his future.

His father, a Brahim Teacher, gives young Siddhartha his basic religious foundation.

Even though he learns well, Siddhartha does not find true happiness in his religion, seeking true enlightenment, along with his childhood friend, Govinda.

Siddhartha leaves his father to join the Samanas, a group of wandering men seeking enlightenment.

Siddhartha ends up being helped by Vasudeva,a ferryman who finally leads Siddhartha to true Enlightnment when Siddhartha returns to him.

SiddharthaSiddhartha is the protagonist in this book. The story follows him and his search for true Enlightnment, a sprirtual level he hopes to gain.

GovindaGovinda is Siddhartha's childhood friend and close companion through the book.

Hermann Hesse was a German writer, famous mostly for Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and Master Ludgi.

VasuvedaVasuveda is the ferryman who leads Siddhartha to what he has been searching for by telling him to listen to the river when he has questions or problems.
