Seymour Cray



Seymour Cray was born on Sept. 28, 1925 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He spent much of his youth in the electrical engineering lab, never developing social skills. He joined the military and fought on Omaha Beach. When he returned home he recieved degrees from Minnesota University electrical engineering and applied mathematics. He passed away in 1996.

Mr. Cray is considered the fahter of supercomputing. In addition to eliminating vacuum tubes, he created vector processing, gallium arsenide microchips, and Flourinert coolant.In 1972, he was presented with the Harry H. Goode Memorial Award, and in 1977 the Seymour Cray Computer Engineering Award was named in his honor.
