SARS comes from a family of viruses called coronavirus.During the outbreak about 8,400 people got SARS. Like many other diseases it was spread through people in close contact with infectious droplets . It also traveled to about 30 different countries. In 2004 SARS went away from humans and people didn't know whether it would come back.

Sars is a viral respiratory illness that starts with a high fever and as it worsens the patient begins to develop a dry cough.


Sars was first discovered in Asia in Feburary of 2003.

In May 2003 there was a idea that civets a cat-like mammal was the cause of this disease.

There was no sufficent evidence of tainted civents therefore causing them to no linger be seen as the animals that spread SARS on to humans.

In fall of 2005 research team was able to discover that bats were the culprits and victims of SARS. They were carries of SARS but only affected humans when brought to the market to be eaten by humans .

Timeline Of Research

- Since the disease can be transmitted through close contact people should wash hand with soap and water frequently. -Washing personal items and disinfecting items to prevent germs from spreading from the virus. - Wear masks if near a person with SARS.

Background Info

-There has been no known transmission of SARS since 2004. - Antibacterial and antivirals do not help aid in the treatment of SARS. - There has not been a way to end SARS completely.
