[2013] Jacob Chum (Default class, Parenting, Law): Serial killer analysis assignment

Dr. Harold Fredrick Shipman

Serial killer analysis

Dr. Shipman was born on January 14, 1946 in Nottingham, England. He went to Leeds School of Medicine and graduated in 1970. The doctor had committed suicide on January 13, 2004 while he was in his jail cell. Throughout history Dr. Shipman is one of the worst serial killers of all time.

Trial picture

Dr. Harold F. Shipman was found guilty of murder for 15 patients, he was also found guilty of forging the will of a victim. He was sentenced 15 life sentences and 4 additional years for the forging of a will.

Why did he kill them? It's hard to say because no one really knows why. Maybe he enjoyed the feeling of taking a life, to play God. Some people think that he did it out of mercy, that he saw these folks in pain and wanted to put them at rest at last. Others think that he did it to avenge his mother. Like I said no one knows why.

Dr. Shipman may have been a psychopath due to the following reasons. The man had no feelings of remorse or guilt for his victims, he was deceptive and he managed to hold down his job for a fairly long time which sociopaths don't tend to do.

He was arrested on September 7, 1998. The elderly death rate had risen significantly, it had become suspicious. His downfall began when he murdered a certain victim and forged her will. The daughter of the victim had contacted the local police when she learned that she and her siblings were left out of the will and left all her money to the doctor. She was suspicious of Dr. Shipman so she contacted the local police and they started an investigation on him. The investigators had found the doctor's type writer, which he used to forge the will and found the body of her mother, which had diamorphine in it.
