[2015] adelia cacoilo: sea otter

1. Oil spills harm the sea otter because when oil spills into the water the sea otters fur gets mated and it is harder for them to swim so they die quickly because they are not able to swim so if they are in the water they will have a hard time getting air. Also when oil spills into the water the sea otters tries to licks the oil and ends up dying because oil is poison.2.Humans are a direct threat because they hunt for otter's for there skin and meat; to surive off of the meat and surive by the fur to keep warm (this happend in the 1700's and 1800's) . Another thing that humans do to threaten the sea otter is fishing, this becuase when they are finding thier meal they end up getting caught in the neat and ,since every living thing needs air, they end up drowning. this is because we like the same shell as the sea otter so when we are trying to catch food we accedenty catch the sea otter instead

there is alot being done to save the sea otter like fund-rasing, breeding them to create pups and putting them in captivity so they don't get hunted. they put them in captivity to breed and so they don't get hunted and so they can create a family big enough to be relased into the wild.

British colombia was affected in the late 1700's and early 1800's because their eco-system was distrupeted and their food-chain as well. The food-chain was distrupted because they would not hunt as much so then they wouldn't be prey or be a predator . Also the sea otters numbers were decreasing because of the over hunting and traping so they were put into captivity intill their numbers increased.

There are 2 major threats with sea otter's habitat loss; humans because of fishing and hunting. This is because of the fur was so soft so they created fur clothing.The other reason is oil spills; the oil goes into the water and once the otter's drink the oil they die because of the chemicals in the oil would poison to them.

Did you know there are only than 10,000 sea otters left in the world! This is because the decrease in numbers, so now they are put in captivity. captivity is when they bring in an endangered species and place in somthing like their habitat for this instines they would have a pool with added on land so they can create a family.
