~Susan Eloise Hinton was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 22, 1950. ~She always enjoyed reading, but she didn't enjoy the literature that was written for young adults. This influenced her choice to write her novels. ~In 1963, she entered Will Rogers Highschool, which would be a model for her first book ''The Outsiders.''~She was fifteen when she first started writing the first draft of ''The Outsiders.'' It took her a year and a half to finish.

S.E. Hinton published many books, including ''The Outsiders,'' ''That Was Then and This Is Now,'' ''Rumble Fish,'' ''Tex,'' ''Taming the Star Runner,'' ''Big David, Little David,'' ''The Puppy Sister,'' ''Hawkes Harbor,'' and ''Some of Tim's Stories.'' Out of those, ''The Outsiders,'' ''Rumble Fish,'' and ''Tex'' have all been transforemed into movies. S.E. Hinton even had the oppotunity to play small roles in some of them.

~Susan claims that she is a private person, but she has shared some of her life with her fans.~In the summer of 1970, she married David Inhofe, a software engineer, after they met in freshman biology class in college, and in 1983, she became a mother to Nicholas David Inhofe.
