At the end of 2011, an estimated 34 million people were living with HIV worldwide. Two-thirds of them are living in sub-SaharanAfrica.
HIV/AIDS
In order for the infectious virus to be completely cured, scientists must find ways to strip the virus from human DNA through vaccinations, medication, or other methods. The cure for HIV/AIDS is not estimated to a definite year, but scientists are determined to find the cure.
HIV/AIDS is a disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus. It is transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse, contaminated blood transfusions, from mother to child during pregnancy, and other different ways. There is no official cure for HIV/AIDS.
What Is HIV/AIDS?
Some people who have once lived with HIV/AIDS state that they have been "cured" from the disease, such as the Berlin Patient, a.k.a. Timothy Ray Brown from California.
Science & Society
Scientists and specialized doctors create different vaccines and medications to treat the disease. The official cure for the disease, however, is still being studied.
