Opening a Coke Bottle

Bath Bomb In Water

In this video, you see a bottle of coke being opened. The fizzing is actually carbon dioxide gas. The carbon dioxide is put into the coke. The pressure inside the bottle keeps the fizz from rising. When someone opens the bottle, the high pressure is released and the trapped carbon dioxide can rise, thus causing the fizz. Once the gas is released, it can not be returned to its original container. Fizzing is an indecator of a chemical reaction.

In this image is a bath bomb. Bath bombs are fizzing toys for kids. The fizzing occurs when the sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) reacts with the citric acid. The water causes the two chemicals to dissolve and react to form sodium citrate and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide turns into a gas that bubbles and fizzes in the water thus creating the bath "bomb". Fizzing is an indecator of a chemical reaction.

Wine Fermentation

In this image, you see a rotten egg. The reason the aroma changes is because eggs contain sulfides. Solfides are mixtures of metals, sulfur, and other elements that are released as the egg rots. The process is actually called putrefaction. The scent change is the indecator of a chemical change.

In this image, you see wine. Wine is formed by fermentation. Fermentation is a chemical reaction that occurs as when sugars are turned into alcohol and carbon dioxide. A new substance is formed, and as the wine matures, it's scent changes as well. It no longer smells like grapes or sugar. The change of scent is the indecation that it is a chemical reaction, and the substance change as well.

Leaves Changing Color

In this image, you see red leaves. Leaves are usually green because of the green pigment in chlorophyll. However, there are also other pigments in leaves such as carotene (yellow) and anthocyanins (red). During winter, photosynthesis stops. Because of this, the leaves use the other pigments and therefore a color change occurs. The leaves can't go back to its original form. The color change is an indication of a chemical reaction.

Roasting a Marshmallow

This video depicts roasting marshmallows in a funny way.The marshmallows burn and as they do they become brown. Also, the oxygen and heat cause the sugars to turn into carbon monoxide and water which can also cause the burnt marshmallow. The color changed which is an indecator of a chemical reaction.

Burning Paper

Above, you see an image of paper burning. Burning paper is also known as combustion. It is a chemical change because it cannot be reverted back to its original form. The carbon in the papor becomes water vapor and arbon dioxide. There is also a temperature change. The fire causes the paper to heat up. The temperature change is an indecator of a chemical change.

Ammonium Chloride in Water

In this image, you see Ammonium Chloride being dissolved in water. When this occurs, the temperature of the Ammonium Chloride lowers. This is because it produces an endothermic reaction. The temperature change is the indecator of a chemical reaction.

Mixing Silver Nitrate and Sodium Chloride

In this video, we see the results of mixing silver nitrate and sodium chloride. A white precipitate occured which is a clear sign of a chemical reaction. The once clear liquid turned solid and white. The indecator of a reaction is the precipitate.

Mixing sodium carbonate and calcium nitrate

Formation of Steel

Above is an image of steel. Steel is formed by adding amounts of various types of steel elements. It cannot be broguht back to its original form and a new substance is formed by the process. The new substance is an indecator of a chemical change.

Yogurt from Milk

Similar to the last example, the we see the results of mixing sodium carbonate and calcium nitrate. As expected, the results were a white precipitate. The once clear liquid turned into a white solid. The indecator of a reaction is the precipitate.

Here we have an image of yogurt. The formation of yogurt to milk is a chemical change because the yogurt is a new substance. To form yogurt, bacteria like Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillas bulgaricus, are put in warm milk. The milk ferments and the result is lactic acid. The lactic acid makes the milk curdle into yogurt. Again, it is a chemical change because a new substance is formed
