Science Fair Experiment

Question1.) What do you think will happen when baking soda and vinegar mix?2.) What do you think will happen to the balloon?3.) Why does the reaction stop?

My predictionWhat I think will happenWhat I think will happen is that the balloon will pop, because it is going to fill up quickly with the carbon dioxide.

ResultsWhat happened, why? What happened is that the chemical reaction between baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar (acetic acid) produces carbon dioxide gas. Which the Gases need room to spread, so that the carbon dioxide will fill the bottle and then move into the balloon and inflate it.

MethodWhat did we do?1.) By using a funnel, add the baking soda to each balloon.2.) Pour the vinegar into the bottle.3.) Carefully fit the balloon over the bottle, the bottle has to be open(do not drop the baking soda to the vinegar yet).4.) Once the balloon is fitted snugly on the nozzle, hold up the balloon and allow the baking soda to fall into the vinegar.5.) Observe the chemical reaction and effort on the balloon.
