Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali I Domenech was born on may 11, 1904 in the little town of, Figures Spain. Dali attendedthe San Fernando Academy of fine arts in madrid, and became internationaly known when three of his paintings were shown in the third annual Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1928. Dali joined the Surrealists, soon became the leader but was expeled in a trial in 1934. During WW2, Dali and his wife Gala moved to new york where the museum of modern art in New York gave dali his first major retrospective. In 1972 Dali opened the Teatro Museo in Figueres, Spain. T his was followd by retrospectives in Paris and London. By this time dali's health was failing, and worsened by a house fire in 1984. Dali sadley died on january 23, 1989.
