Salem Witch Trial

The Crucible

The puritans were a group of extremely critical religious croup during the reign of Elizabeth I. Many of them were graduates of Cambridge University and became Anglican priest to make changes in their local churches. Worship was the area in which the Puritans tried to change things the most their efforts in that direction were sustained by intense theological convictions and definite expectations about how seriously Christianity should be taken. They wanted to purify their national church by eliminating every shred of Catholic influence. The Puritans believed that humankind was utterly dependent upon God for salvation. They believed in 4 convictions (1) That personal salvation was entirely from God,(2) That the bible provided the indispensable guide to life, (3) that the church should reflect the express teaching of Scripture, and (4) that society was one unified whole. The Puritans crossed the Atlantic in order to practice religion without the interference from the Church of England.

McCarthyismJohn McCarthy was an Republican U. S. Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin Mr. McCarthy was a man of ambition an during the reelections process Mr. McCarthy knowing his first term was impressive he began to searched for ways to ensure his political success, resorting even to corruption McCarthy relentlessly pushed through and became the chairman of the Government Committee on Operations of the Senate, widening his scope to “investigate” dissenters. He continued to investigate for over two years, relentlessly questioning numerous government departments and the panic arising from the witch-hunts and fear of communism became known as McCarthyism.Through the televised investigations into the United States Army and the reporters’ attack, the nation grew to realize that McCarthy was “evil and unmatched in malice.” He lost his position as chairmanship on the Government Committee on Operations of the Senate and in December of 1954, Mr. McCarthy was nothing more than a modern day Witch hunter, hence the definition of McCarthyism "McCarthyism is the practice of making accusation of disloyalty subversion or treason without proper regard of evidence . It also means the practice of making unfair allegation or using unfair investigation techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent or political criticism. In respect to Anti-Communism it is defined as Anti-communism is a strong opposition to the ideology and practice of communism. Following the October Revolution in Russia in 1917, groups opposed to communism began to organize, rising against the country’s new socialist regime. While anti-communists oppose both the practice of communism and disagree with its claims, three major groups hold anti-communism as a primary part of their ideology. These are capitalists, anarchists and fascists.

Arthur Miller Mr Miller was born in 1915 in Harlem New Your City to Isidore Miller an illiterate Jewish immigrant from Poland. Mr. Miller is well know for his writting, Death of a Salsman, Timebends and the The Crucible. Mr Miller wrote The Crucible to show the atmospher in which the author saw "accepted the notion that conscience was no longer a private matter but one of state administration". Arthur Miller wrote: "I had read about the witchcraft trials in my college, but it was not until I read a book published in 1867 [?] by Charles W. Upham, who was then the mayor of Salem, that I knew I had to write about the period".The same terror, which paralysed Salem citizens in the spring of 1692, was paralysing the United States. Actors were replacing Salem citizens, Communists were replacing witches, and Danforth turned over his court to McCarthy and the HUAC. Blind men of equivalent stuff were again forging history. One plot made way to another. Lucifer must have joined Karl Marx, or maybe the contrary, but the aim of reactionaries of every side was for sure to melt the two shapes of evil into one reality. Lucifer first plotted against God, and "In God We Trust?" It is all the more true as Americans printed the motto on their currency to remember. Two hundred years later, Lucifer evolved in a more contemporary way, in the hope of convincing some creduluous puppets to overthrow the government of the United States: two sides of the same delirium, both harmful for the mental equilibrium of the country.
