Saint Francis of Assisi

Francis lived as wealthy young man. He fought as a soldier for Assisi. While going off to war in 1204, Francis reportedly heard the voice of Christ, who told him to repair the Christian Church and live a life of poverty. St. Francis headed back to Assisi. On a pilgrimage to Rome, he joined the poor in begging at St. Peter's Basilica. After living in poverty Francis returned home, began preaching on the streets, and soon amassed a following. Thusly, he abandoned his life of luxury and devoted his life to Christianity, and became known all over the Christian world.

Saint Francis of Assisi original name was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone. Saint Francis was an Italian Catholic friar and preacher.

Founder of the Franciscan Order, born at Assisi in Umbria, in 1181. He founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women’s Order of St. Clare, and the Third Order of Saint Francis.

Tau is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Francis’s loved the Tau symbol and frequently mentions it during his lessons. He also used it as a letter head in all his official correspondence and signed letters with it.

St.Francis died on October 3, 1226 in Assisi, Spoleto, Italy. His Feast Day is October 4th.He is the Patron Saint of Animals.
