What Happened?

Significance

The 1920’s Sacco and Vanzetti case has affected trials today on anarchism and immigrants and the argument that continues on unfair conviction cause by anti- immigrant bias and anarchism. On April 15, 1920 Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti shot and killed two employees of a factory in Massachusetts and stole $15,000. They were found and charged for murder, the trial lasted six weeks. Both men were found guilty on all charges based on circumstantial evidence and all evidence for their case was thrown out because it was “unreliable”. Both were sentenced to death by electrocution but supporters still argue that anti-immigrant bias and anarchism bias had cause an unfair conviction. “This case has come to stand for the type of racial bigotry and breach of human rights in the United States Constitution is to protect against. The legacy of Sacco and Vanzetti serves to protect others from racial and political persecution,” - Encyclopedia of World Biography. It is believed that the Sacco and Vanzetti case was unjust since they were italian immigrants and archists in the U.S. Today the argument still continues on political bias for these cases and the Sacco and Vanzetti case has been brought up many times for people still suffering from these issues.
