Why I chose this topic: I chose this topic because an African American invented it.

Jan Ernst Matzeliger was bornSeptember 1852.He died August241889.His mother was a black suukinamese slave. He settled in Philadelphia Pennsyvania at age of 19 after working as a sailor. After a while he went to work in the HarneysBrothrs shoe factory. He died at the age of 37. His invention was perhapsthe most important invention for New England.

Sources of Information:Jan Ernst Matzeliger. "Biography." Paragraphs 1-6. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Ernst_Matzeliger).1883. "Events." All Paragraphs. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1883).

In 1883: January 4 Life magazine was founded in New York City.In May 5 construction of the Wanage Rail way begins. In July 4 the worlds first rodeo was held in Pecos,Texas

This is importantbecause if you did not have it shoes would of cost a lot ofmoney. And it attaches the bottom to your shoe.
