Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons was born October 4, 1957 to Daniel Simmons, Sr. and Evelyn Simmons. His father worked as a public administrator, while his mother work as a New York City park administrator. He was the middle son of three boys.

Russell's passion for music started early in life. He worked as a promoter for local New York musicians. Later he partnered with Rick Rubin and created Def Jam Recordings. We can credit Def Jam with many musical introductions, such as LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and Run DMC.

The Simmons takeover didn't stop there. He also started Rush Media, which included Phat Farm clothing company, television shows, a management company, a magazine and an advertising agency. He sold Phat Farm and his stake in Def Jam over 10 years ago.

Russell Simmons is an inspiration. He started from nothing to make something of himself. After working hard for years, now he is able to live life by his own standards. He answers to no one but himself, which is definitely the DREAM.
