Rosa Parks
Born Rosa Louise McCauley
-A leader in civil rights-Changed segregation laws in the 1950's
Awards and Honors-Rosa Parks Peace Prize in 1994 -Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996- Congressional Gold Medal in 1999
On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man while riding on a bus. Parks was fined and thousands boycotted riding buses. On November 13, 1956, the US Supreme Court ruled that segregation on city buses is unconstitutional.
