Rosa Parks was born in Tuskgee, Alabama on February 4, 1913. She was an African-American woman who is well known for her stand againist racial segregation on buses in Montgomery, Alabama. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man which resulted in her arrest. Even though she was sitting in the "For Colored" section of the bus, Rosa Parks was charged and convicted of civil disobedience. This event sparked civil rights leaders to led a protest called the Montgomery Bus Boycott. After 13 months, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregation laws in Alabama were unconstitutional. Rosa Parks was a member of the NAACP and she spent most of her life fighting for disegregation and voting rights. Rosa Parks died on October 24, 2005 and is known for being one of the most influential leaders in African-American history.
