Period A - Roman Soldier (Aisy, Erica, Grace, and Will)

Now you're in the army.Your Routine & Duties:

-You are in the army most likely because our empire is at war (you know, because we're always conquering)-In your service, sentry duty is going to make up the majority of your time-You may be stationed anywhere between Britain and North Africa-It is likely that you will be stationed along a trade route-You will march 20 miles (about 32.2 kilometers) per day-The supplies in the your pack may weigh up to 30 kilograms (4.7 stones)-Your breakfast will consist of wheat-There will be no delicacies or pleasures in food and drink because those are unnecessary while in the military-You will work out at least 2 times per day to stay in shape-You will also participate in the building of roads

TO JOIN THE MILITARY, YOU MUST:-Be a man-Be at least 5½ feet tall and 18 years of age-Be a citizen*-Not be engaged (so you don't marry while in the army), that is, if you are planning to sign up before the year of 197 A.D.*If you are going to be a legionary; non-citizens can sign up as auxiliary soldiersTips for Enlistment:-Your occupation and skills will determine your placement-It will help to have a letter of recommendation-You will be interviewed before your enlistment, so bring your letter of recommendation if you have acquired one

You will be given these various supplies:

Cookware such as pots and pans

Armor such as the helmet, breastplate (iron), leg & arm guards, belt, tunic, and boots

The helmet was made of iron, bronze, or brass, lined with leather

Shield

Swords and Daggers

Spears & Javelins

Your Potential Ranks:While you're starting out:-Discens (in training)-Immunis (specialist)Non-citizens:-You can only become an auxiliary soldiers-After 25 years of service you can become a citizenBasic Structure of Our Military:-Legion - Our military unit that includes about 5,000 soldiers (not allowed in Rome except for victory parades)-Contubernium - Group that includes 8 men in one tent and share a pack muleWe break into groups to have a clear way of command!

Pay-You will be payed every fifteenth day-Legionaries, you will receive about 300 denarii per year-Auxiliaries, you will receive about 100 denarii per year (remember that you'll still be eligible for citizenship)And after twenty-five years, you can retire with a pension

Our War Tactics and Methods of Discipline:-Calvary we send out as scouts to look for potential ambushers-Other scouts will look for good campsites-We use catapults to attack our enemies-We use rampants, or ditches with a small hill of dirt next to them, around enemy campsites-The red flag means prepare for war-If you disobey our orders, you are flogged-Desertion results in the loss of your right hand

Formations You Will Use:

Left to right:-When sieging to a fort, we form the tortoise.-The soldiers in front, sides, and top put together their shields.-The soldiers in the back lines hold their shields above them to form a shell.

-We vary battle formations according to the situation-Infantry go in the middle, with auxiliaries on the sides for open field conflicts-Calvalry go in the back, to the sides of the line-There is a large back-up of infantry in the rear

We will form a square formation with shields on the outside when surrounded

Complex contains:-Guard towers along the outside-Barracks in 4 corners of complexIn the middle:-Grainiary (brown)-Principia (blue)-Praetorium (pink)

Pig's Head-Wedge shaped-Uses the wall of shields to push enemy

Our Navy:-Will maintain control of the sea to control commerce-Is not the proudest division of our military-Our ships include sails and two or three banks for oars-Ram on the front of every ship-We crash into ships to sink them-We walk onto enemy ships to attack-
