[2014] Miles McCain: Roma

Tarpea, a Roman woman, committed treason against the Romans and helped the Sabines during an invasion. The Sabines, however, proved to be disloyal and killed her. After they betrayed and killed her, they threw her off a cliff. To this day, that cliff is called the Tarpeian Rock. What happened?1. She was asked to help take over the citadel by the Sabines.2. She said she would do it if she could have what was on all of their left arms (golden bracelets).3. After she helped, the soldiers crushed her with their shields, which were also on their left arms. For the rest of the existence of Ancient Rome, executions were carried out on the Tarpeian Rock.

How itcame to be

The Tarpeian Rock is a steep cliff on the Capitoline Hill

After Tarpeia was thrown off the rock, the Romans started a tradition to throw traitors, criminals, and other prisoners off it for their executions. For the rest of the existence of Ancient Rome, executions were carried out on the Tarpeian Rock.

The Rock Today

The Tarpeian Rock is still in fine shape and can be visited today. It no longer serves as a place for executions, however.
