FUN FACTS. The Rocky Mt. are really two opposite mountain chains, there is one on top of the other.. The older Mt.chain started billions of years ago..The younger mt. chain pushed up more ,about 60,million years ago..These rocks got pushed up into Mts. because plate tectonics..Mt. Elbert is the highest peak in the Rocky Mts.,it is 14,440 ft..The Rockies stretch more than 3,000 miles,it is 4,830 km from the northenmost part of British Columbia ,in western Canada, to New Mexico, in the SW U.S.
